Stream of Consciousness Saturday. ic/ical.

This is my entry for LindaGHill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

This week’s prompt is ‘ic and ical’ find a word that uses either or both. Bonus points if you can use both! #SoCs.

Stoic, I like to think that I am stoical I don’t like to cause a fuss. I believe I have a high tolerance for most things, pain, patience and compassion.

Sadly the news has worn me down this year. The rise in knife crime has really made me stop and think.

I feel the time for being stoical has finally come to an end.

(The figures quoted below were correct at the time I wrote them, even though I can hardly believe them myself.)

There have been 89 murders so far this year of which 51 were fatal stabbings . The number of offences involving stabbings for the year up to the end of March 2018 was an unbelievable 40147.

So far in 2018 there have been 1,299 stabbings in London up to the end of April, According to official statistics from the Metropolitan Police.

There has been a huge rise in gang and drugs related crime in all our major cities. Many though not all of these crimes are committed by young men and boys.

I have written about gang crime before here .

Sadly many, though by no means all of these incidents have involved imigrants who have come here in search of better lives only to find themselves caught up in the drug and gang culture that is rife on many of the large city’s housing estate.

I am sorry for this rant but I feel we must do something. It is no longer a time to be Stoical.

The news can be overwhelming and I only read it in small doses. But I can still create little ripples of kindness here and there. It’s good that you want to do something. Every little bit helps.

You tackled a hard topic well. Nothing will change until people step up and speak out. Nicely done.

I agree….being stoic doesn’t apply to such rampant crimes. I don’t know the statistics over here (we have more gun violence) but probably the same. The human race needs to evolve beyond any kind of violence. Wishing us all peace…. โ˜ฎ๏ธ

My understanding, Willow, is that this is the reason for the planned Brexit which will give the UK the ability to have controlled immigration.

That’s as maybe but the problem is already here, poverty, race, customs, ignorance, jealousy and hate sadly it’s world wide. I don’t think leaving Europe will make a difference to the violence. Honestly Robbie I don’t know what will. ๐Ÿ’œ

I know, Willow, there just isnโ€™t enough to go around and it costs an awful lot of money to uplift people. Schools, hospitals, universities, all needed but so expensive.

Yes indeed, if only we could just redistribute the wealth around the world but sadly that will never happen ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒน

You succeeded in the ic’s though the numbers quoted make me sick. Well done Willow.

I am trying to wrap my head around those numbers. That is just awful. I am not sure that we in the United States have the same stats for stabbings but of course we have had a ridiculous amount of mass shootings. We do need to do something and many people do and yet just falls onto deaf ears. With people in power too greedy to care. So the masses have to struggle placing very near medieval times.

But to your point. We have to keep on keeping on the more people participate one day weโ€™ll be a Monsoon wave of power.
