Here is the second and lighter alternative fairytale for America’s National Tell a Fairytale Day. I was allerted by Cathleen Townsend to this delightful prompt. This is one I made up myself. Formed of course by stories I have read as a child.
Princess Perfect
Once there was a princess who lived in a far off land she was unbelievably beautiful and many a nobleman had visited to try and earn her hand.
Unfortunately our princess of face and figure fair had not been impressed by any of the young men who had presented themselves to her.
Being a canny female the princess had a cat. He sleek and beautiful, clever and cunning and to be honest a little fat!
The princess being something of a rebel would not listen to advice from her counsellors wise. She would ask her cat who always astounded her with the wisdom of his replies!!
One bright and Sunny morning after our princess had been dressed and had her breakfast and her little walk was now ready for her rest. Settled on a settee ready for forty winks her maid come in with her coffee pot in case she desired a drink.
Suddenly there was a commotion outside in the courtyard. The most stunning prince had arrived with flaxen hair and handsome face, he name was prince Willard. The maid burst in.
All excited and full of the young man she thought that he was gorgeous and the princess should bag him if she can!
The princess tiptoed over to the window to catch a tiny peek. The sight of the beautiful prince left her head giddy and her legs weak.
Looking down she asked of her beloved cat ” an unannounced visit, pusscat what do you make of that”.
The cat took his time to answer he washed his face and scratched his ear then looking at his beautiful princess announced “he is not for you my dear!” The princess was not pleased, that was not what she wanted to hear.
The prince look up and smiled at her and she was overjoyed.
Now Pusscat, he was wise and he knew when to leave so he silently slipped out the door as his princess made ready the prince to receive.
Our princess made her self ready the charming prince to meet.
She touched up her make up and her hair with flowers she did wreath! So sitting in her prettiest pose the sun lighting her hair she watch as the prince was ushered in and set before her square.
Waving his silken hanky a gracious bow he made displaying a shapely leg and then to her surprise he asked “dearest princess where is your brother Greg” Sitting with her mouth a gape, not a pretty sight and between you and me.
Poor prince Willard took a fright. Finally she regain her poise and sent out for her brother.
Shocked and upset that the prince was obviously not a potential lover.
Prince Gregory arrived dressed in gold and blue. Then he and prince Willard danced and pranced around delivering their “Hellooos”
Off they went together hanging on each others arms, Willard quiet oblivious to the miffed princess’s charms.
Later in the moonlight our princess and her cat, sat together quietly engrossed in a ‘birds and bees’ chat.
“Well now” said the princess looking wide eyed at her cat…”surely you are joking do they really do that?? “
Oh that made me giggle sis!

Love it ๐
So pleased that you do ๐
I love this! It had all the proper fairy feel, and then a sharp modern twist at the end. Well done.
*insert sigh here* Now I feel bad. You told me two fairy tales, and I have yet to finish my single one that I’m working on. Right now Dieter is still stuck in the forest, with his golden key and his golden bird that came out of the chest that they key unlocked. They’re stuck in a snowstorm, and I’m not sure whether to have them attacked my wild dogs or if the weather by itself is enough for them to deal with. ๐
Well you could just have them nearly die and then a kindly wood cutter could save them….and in the Spring you can …let the dogs out! ๐๐น๐
