Domestic Violence Month.

Mummy says I am not allowed to say.

October is Domestic Violence  Month. This is my take on the subject through the eyes of a child. I wrote this in 2012.

Every night it is the same,

Mum and dad play their game.

Daddy shouts and mummy cries

It is very frightening when dad’s fists start to fly.

It no fun to hear things go bump

And mum falls after dad given her a clump.

In the morning  mum looks pale

But she always smiles as the neighbours she hails.

I don’t like to see mum’s bruises

Or to hear the words that dad uses.

I don’t want to go to school

I want to stay with mum in case dad is cruel.

He rings her in the day and threatens her,

I don’t want to see, don’t want to care.

Hiding  underneath the bed clothes pretending it is not real

They just keep on, not caring how I feel.

Mummy says I must stay quiet and keep out of his way.

I am not allowed to talk of this at school

Or mention that dad treats mummy so cruel.

Arrrgh! what was that awful scream,

I hate daddy he is so mean….

That was the font door ………..

It’s quiet now no shouting any more. Mummy Mummy are you there , Mummy mummy are you there.

Creeping forward  down the stair Mummy is laying on the floor

Her head at a funny angle to the door.

Mummy , mummy answer please , Mummy mummy please don’t tease. Mummy mummy daddy has gone Mummy mummy speak, come on!

Another poem to bring the effects of abuse on children who live in fear of violence, out into the open. When parents fight the whole family suffer. Children live in fear. This is not right.

RonovanWrites #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt #Challenge #171 Lake&Calm

This week Ronovanwrites has given us the two words Lake and Calm.

I wrote a trio of Haiku, a before, during  and after.

   Lake and Calm

Gently the lake flows

Softly bathed in the moonlight

So deep and so calm

The waves  lap my toes

The water fills me with calm

At one with the lake

Cold, pulled from the lake

In death she looked peaceful, calm

All her travails gone.

Looking down to the Downs.

Looking down at the dog.

Looking down on Edinburgh

Looking down.

Looking down at my nails

Looking down the lane

Looking down at naked toes

Looking down at painted toes and Ruby’s neck.
