This week Helen Espinosa said :The Song Lyric Sunday theme for this week was to post a song a Holiday song that best describes you during the Holiday season. Please feel free to click the link, read the rules and post one of your own.
Well this song by Joni Mitchell is one I love, though it is a very sad song. It makes me think of all the people who for whatever reason become disenfranchised from their friends and loved ones.
Slipping into a downward spiral they are always looking for the big brake that will set them up or get them off the drugs or the drink so they can go home. It always makes me cry, it always makes me think of the lost and the lonely at Christmas. I count my blessings and pray for those less fortunate.
Lyrics found at A to Z lyrics
River” by Joni Mitchell
It’s coming on Christmas,
They’re cutting down trees.
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace,
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
But it don’t snow here,
Stays pretty green.
I’m gonna make a lot of money
And and then I’m gonna quit this crazy scene.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I wish I had a river so long,
I would teach my feet to fly.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I made my baby cry.
he tried hard to help me,
he put me at ease.
lord,he loved me so naughty,
made me weak in the knees.
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I’m so hard to handle,
I’m selfish and I’m sad.
Now I’ve gone and lost the best baby
That I’ve ever had.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I wish I had a river so long,
I would teach my feet to fly.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I made my baby say goodbye.
It’s coming on Christmas,
They’re cutting down trees.
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace,
I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I love this one. The image of a river for skating away on is my favourite. I recently got back into skating a little, after twenty or so years, and I can see myself starting and going and going and going, but I know that image means different things to different listeners.
Happy Holiday Season to you. And here’s to more Song Lyric Sunday in 2017 for us all.

I’m not sure how I missed this last week. I’ve heard this song before and it is a sad one… although, there is some hope. We just need to find that elusive river to skate away on! Great choice, Willow. I hope you had an amazing Holiday! ❤
