Homeless At Christmas

I  originally wrote  this in  December  2013  but it is  still relevant .

I hope it won’t snow this Christmas it’s one of my biggest fears.

It was so bitter last year even thinking of it makes me shudder and shed a tear.

They won’t be eating Turkey with all the trim

Unless they find a charity shelter and they can get in.

The people at the shelters are angels from up above they give their time and plenty love.

They really are saviours they really do so much good.

They give warmth and comfort and Christmas dinner and even  Christmas pud.

OH! why are they out here I hear you say

There are lots of reasons, have you got all day? Dave got made redundant the bills he couldn’t pay So the bank stepped in and took his home away.

His wife could not stand the B&B that the social offered them

So she took the children off to live with her mum so Dave won’t see them again.

Jen, she was cheeky girl always having fun

Staying out late and playing up in the end it got too much for her mum!

After a big row one night  in the summer she asked Jen to go,

So she is struggling along out here now, when your homeless it is amazing how fast your friends all go.

Rob well his story is very sad,

It all started with his drinking then he discovered drugs he became violent and everything turned bad.

He fell out with his mother’s boyfriend who told him he had to go

And then threw him out into the December  snow.

The reasons are legion you can take your pick,

People  who  loose  their jobs  because  they became  sick

From parents who can’t cope

To addictions that make you loose all hope,

Parents or family who beat you, family who will not stop at a touch

They want you to give them way too much.

This may all seem morbid this may all seem too sad

I hate to tell you all, things can be so very, very bad.

People young and old see their hopes and dreams unfold and vanish in clouds of smoke

As they end up on the streets lost and without any hope.

So enjoy your Christmas parties, your families and your Yule tide fare

But as you raise a toast remember the homeless ones out there .

Soft fur. Pristine caramel-colored puppy.

Black button eyes, fluffy paws, perfectly embroidered mouth. Lifted from a shiny red box with silver snowflakes. New. Untouched. Unloved.

Matted fur. Dingy dark brown dog.

Christmas Lights by Lucy Brazier

Christmas had always been a funny time of year for Mary. As a child, she loved it, even
though the weeks of endless anticipation agonised her. The tree at her grandparents’
house seemed to her the biggest in the land and she struggled to imagine a grander meal
anywhere than her Nanna’s Christmas dinner. Her mother and uncles would dance, while
her auntie’s dog slept by the fire. Once, she had even been cast as her namesake in her
school nativity play, a source of great pride at the time. A golden time.

The story of the Christmas Cake

Here is  the  story  of  a  Christmas cake

A real home made bobbydazzler

Not  a shop bought fake.

15626106_1130772270376355_8665314643865698454_o

The ingredients were  all of  the best

The fruit ,peel and  brandy were mixed

Then  left over night  to  rest.

15443021_1130772427043006_7041737488207104874_o

A week later  when  the cake  had been feed  with brandy

It’s beautiful  top of  mixed  nuts had  been glazed.

It was marzipaned  and  almost  ready  for icing , so  we kept it handy.

We just had  to wait for one or two days.15540673_1130772950376287_8119009468886057626_o

Finally  the great  day arrived

The icing was  made  and  carefully  applied

Little  decorations  that  we have had  for years

The cake  looks  so lovely  I  could easily  shed  tears.15626054_1130772720376310_4483713958418508231_o

None  of  patterns  on  the  icing  royal

Nor  any  of  the  fine  cooking  was  done  by  me

But  by  my  fine  hubby.

I am very  proud to  see  the  results of  his  toil!

Kyrosmagica Xmas Ice Skating Party!!!

Com everyone lets get over to wonderland at https://kyrosmagica.wordpress.com/2016/12/18/kyrosmagica-xmas-ice-skating-party/ it’s party time!!

M J Mallon YA Author and Poet

Welcome………

img_1342

Let’s have a big splash, a veritable Mad Hatters Xmas  Party…. Invite masses of bloggers over to share cake, music, their links and stories. Wait a minute, it’s a bit cold for swimming… so let’s pop over to Winter Wonderland.

So first things first – provisions –  I’m  off to Cambridge market to get some nibbles…. I better wrap up warm, it looks cold out there. I’m just starting to recover from a bit of a nasty illness. No worry, I’m sure some hot jacket potatoes, olives, tasty bread, cheeses, fruit, and whatever else takes my fancy, will warm me up and make me feel much better. Don’t worry, I promise not to eat it all!

untitled

Now with that done,  phew these bags are heavy. How are we going to get to Winter Wonderland? We could walk but that would be boring, and Kyrosmagica doesn’t do boring. So, let’s go ….

Priceless Gifts from a Homeless Stranger By Russ Towne

I almost didn’t notice her as I drove past on the way back from a last-minute shopping run for forgotten items for Christmas dinner with extended family. She was all alone lying on a sidewalk on Christmas Day. The sight broke my heart.
I was only a block or two from a small neighborhood store so I drove there to find food for her. The selection was poor. I ended up getting a banana, personal size carton of milk, and a pre-made meal for children’s school lunches that contained meat…

Christmas  Lights by Willow Willers

Fingers almost blue, toes numb like  her soul

Fear had  her in it’s grip , she was no longer whole

The lights  twinkled on the water  and  the  snow

Eyes closed she stood silent rocking to and throw .

Song Lyric Sunday: Shiny Happy People.

This week Helen Espinosa is taking a break and her sister Dlrands/Lorrie is setting our prompt for us. The prompt this week is A song that make us feel better.

So let me think back past all the recent songs that make me happy. Let’s go back to 1991 and Shiny happy people from REM. Not an easy time in my life, marriage problems, work problems, parental problems you name it I had it!

Something about the song always gave the umph! To keep going!

“Shiny Happy People” by REM

Shiny happy people laughing

Meet me in the crowd, people, people
Throw your love around, love me, love me
Take it into town, happy, happy
Put it in the ground where the flowers grow
Gold and silver shine

Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing

Everyone around, love them, love them
Put it in your hands, take it, take it
There’s no time to cry, happy, happy
Put it in your heart where tomorrow shines
Gold and silver shine

Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing

Whoa, here we go

Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing

Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing

Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing

Shiny happy people holding hands
People, happy people
