She was his puppet

Hidden strings made her his pet

His hands made  her play

Galloping  through dreams

Sleeping, still you are at play

Darling pet my  joy.

The Dark Side of Christmas by Melanie Noell Bernard

With the world outside the window a backdrop of darkness, the Christmas tree shone like a beacon of hope. A warm glow emanated from the twinkling lights. They illuminated the living room in a soft orange hue. The small living room danced to life with the glitter of the presents under the tree, the sheen of the white marble over the crackling fireplace, and the sparkle of bobbles and ornaments hung from the pine.

I curled up on the sofa. With my legs tucked up against my chest, a mug of steaming cocoa warming my fingers, I gazed at the scene laid out before me.

It was perfect.

Demented Christmas Memories and Furniture Polish by S.D. Gates

It’s funny the things you remember from your childhood, strange memories that you don’t really share with anyone because they are just so whacky and odd.  I have several that always stick in my mind, and one that particularly disturbs me, every time I smell lemon Pledge (the furniture polish) or think about Christmas.  And you might be wondering how on earth could this be applicable to Solveig’s Advent Calendar posts.  Hang on, and I shall tell you.
