Thursday Doors: Rochefort en Terre

This is part of Norm 2.0 ‘s Thursday Doors. Pingback and rules here

We went to the old and beautiful town of Rochefort en  Terre. The drive was longer than we had planned but it was well worth it.

The door above was found at the old chateau above the town. It was not open to the public, only the grounds were. Sadly the whole place looked neglected from what we could glimpse through the dusty windows .As you can see the door though was very impressive as was it’s knocker.

There was a little chapel also in disrepair but full of atmosphere!

We wandered through the town and were amazed at how alive and bright and full of life it was after the sad and tired but lovely chateau. Here are some more doors from Rochefort en Terre.

Quite a few years ago when we were on holiday in Brittany we visited the chateau, it was owned by an American artist and he had an exhibition of his paintings inside. It was open to the public all summer. I wonder if he sold it, or ran out of money, How sad that it should now be looking run down and neglected. Have a very happy weekend. The weather looks set to be fabulous here in Rochefort sur Mer so I hope it is the same in Rochefort en Terre (even though you are not staying there but I couldn’t resist!)

Second picture – the crest: “OMNIA RELIQUIT SERVARE” – everyone gives up serving/service/servitude – but “REMPB”? That has me stumped.
