#writephoto Photo Prompt :Unlit Beacon

This is part of Sue Vincent‘s Thursday photo prompt. Sue said :”Use the image of the unlit beacon against the stormy sky to create a post on your own blog… poetry, prose, humour… light or dark, whatever you choose, by noon (GMT)  Wednesday 28th September ”  full rules and pingback here

No one remembers now why the beacons are always lit at dusk. No one even questions the reasoning behind the daily task of building the beacons only for them to be set a light just before dark.

It was a fair system, one person from each household was chosen to be a beacon builder and the leader of each village, town or city would light the beacon every night.

There was no argument about the system it just worked. Years turned into centuries, centuries into millennia and the system stayed and the beacons lit the nights and could even be seen from transplanet shuttles. Yes just like the water on the planet the light from the beacons shone out into space.

Yes even now in this modern age of enlightenment, space travel, planet wide peace, computors and universal translators the beacons are lit . No one knows why, no one knows who started this tradition? Why does no one care,am I the only inquiring mind on the planet.

So I did enquire, I searched the uninet. I spent hours in Libraries of Antiquity I even asked those in charge, the politicians, the leaders even the old ones ….. no one could or would answer.

Then about three nights ago my phone rang, no one there, a wrong number I thought. So I went to bed. It was about 1am when they came, the men in grey suits and white faces. They smashed down the doors and thumped up the stairs they woke my wife and my children. I heard their screams. The last thing I  remember as I was being dragged from the house was my wife’s voice and the sight of all our phones and uninet equipment being packed up.

They kept me in a dark room for two days, I think, as I became unsure of the time passage. At regular intervals they brought me out for questioning. They used force, kindness and rationality and finally drugs .

I told them I just wanted to know about the beacons, no I  was not working with anybody else. I had found out nothing at all. After a while I realised they knew nothing either! They were disappointed that I had learned nothing.

At some point today they brought out from room and gave me some clothes and a watch. We went by private transport to a military  base I was escorted on to a transplanet shuttle. We landed at five in the evening. They brought me to a becon on a deserted hill. Miles from anywhere. By 6pm I knew my fate. I was chained up inside the beacon. I am sad that I never found out ‘why the beacons’, I  am devastated that I shall never be able to tell my family I love them. I am afraid to burn.

Dusk is here now and I am all bloodied from struggling, hoarse from shouting. The flames have started I can feel the heat. I look up and see the most glorious sunset. The flames bite and I give in to death…

6am, an hour before the becon builder would arrive for work a man in grey raked through the ashes of the beacon untill he found the watche’s capsule. He took it to the unmarked car he had arrived in and put the capsule into the player. After listening to the man’s account of his search and his end he sighed deeply.

Later at the meeting with his supervisor he said”No sir he new nothing either” He took a sip of his coffee but it tasted bitter.

Thoughts From France. Mende

Mende a beautiful town in Lozere France. There is so much to see. We got a circular, information leaflet that took us on an historic tour of the old town! Boy it was old! There is evidence that there have been people living in the town since 200BC. Read about it here it is very interesting.

This is the narrowest street the ancient town of Mende.

We followed the map and found it very interesting. We visited the Cathedral , It was Pope Urban V  who started work on  the cathedral (1368), for a completion in 1467.

As you can see the two towers are completely different, one was destroyed during the religious wars. I am totally miffed as to why they did not replicate the old one?

Here they are restoring part of the old ramparts of the town. This time unlike their predecessors they are honouring what was there before.

This is the the oldest water pump in town apparently it is the best water in the Town!!

This spectacular moment in time  is painted on the side of a house in the old town it looks as if the guy with the flag is about to step on to the street! The scene in the painting actually depicts a scene from Voltarra an Italian town that Mende is twinned with . We have visited Voltarra too.

Well that is all the photos the internet here will allow me to upload right now .

Bonsoir, this should of been posted yesterday but I am sorry I just did not have time to write it all or the patience to fight the internet! 😊😇

The black clouds chased us all day.

Sunshine greeted us.

Clouds like huge curtains

Attempt to hide the Sunshine

Song Lyric Sunday. Kidz by Take That.

This is part of Helen Espinosa‘s Song Lyric Sunday. You can find Helen  at Life one word at a time.

This week Helen said : The Song Lyric Sunday theme for this week was to share a song from a band you recently saw in concert.  It is open to anyone who wants to share music, so please feel free to click the link, read the rules and post one of your own.      Rules and Pingback here

Now it is really a long time since I have seen a band live so I shall have to cheat and pick a song from the last show I watched on TV.

It was Take That’s Progress Tour which I loved every minute of!! I think Take That are very underated . They are Brilliant live and they are all so talented both as performers and as song and music composers.

The Progress Tour is the last time the whole group appeared as a whole! I have chosen  my favourite song … Very hard to pick one! Kidz,  I put the live video from the show as well as the official video, the live one has a lot of background noise on it!

Lyrics fromA to Z lyrics

TAKE THAT LYRICS

“Kidz”

Kings and Queens and Presidents
Ministers of Governments
Welcome to the future of your world

Through talking heads that took liberties
The monkeys learnt to build machines
They think they’ll get to heaven through the universe

They say nothing
Deny everything
And make counter accusations
My friends, my dear, my love, my God

There’ll be trouble when the kidz come out (come out)
There will be lots for them to talk about (about)
There’ll be trouble when the kidz come out
When the kidz come out, when the kidz come out
When the kidz come out

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
What you looking at
Hey, hey, hey, hey
You want a bit of that
Hey, hey, hey, hey
There will be trouble when the kidz come out
When the kidz come out
Hey

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who’s the fairest of them all?
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly or the Beautiful

Because it’s up hill and against the wind
With no-one there to let us in
Leave your thoughts and save yourself you fool

The daggers of science
Evolving into violence
We’re not sure where the fallout blows
But we all know ·

There’ll be trouble when the kidz come out (come out)
There will be lots for them to talk about (about)
There’ll be trouble when the kidz come out
When the kidz come out, when the kidz come out
When the kidz come out

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
What you looking at
Hey, hey, hey, hey
You want a bit of that
Hey, hey, hey, hey
There will be trouble when the kidz come out
When the kidz come out
Hey

Out on the streets tonight
They’re making peace tonight
They’re making peace

La, la, la, la…

There’ll be trouble when the kidz come out
There will be lots for them to talk about
There’ll be trouble when the kidz come out
When the kidz come out, when the kidz come out

There’ll be trouble when the kidz come out

The Church at St Leon Sur Vezere

The prettiest little church I have seen on this visit to France is the one above. The church shares it’s name with the village.

The village itself is one of the quaintest around here too and believe all the villages are very quaint ! We arrived mid afternoon on the one of rainiest days of our holiday yet!

This is possibly the quietest this village has ever looked! It seemed as if everyone had run off because they heard we were coming! Even the locales were not in evidence.

We had a look around the church , something I always enjoy because I have a real love of stain glass windows.

Unfortunately the light was not good enough  for me to capture the colours of the glass.

When we came out of the church we found some steps leading down to the river Vezere . The river winds itself around the village in the laziest of ways.

Well I think that is the fullest  SoCs account I can give you of our visit to St Leon Sur Vezere without cheating. So there you go. xxx
