Song Lyric Sunday hosted by Helen Espinosa her blog, the rules and the pingback are here
I have always loved Carly Simon her voice so clear and melodic can fit any song. Carly is a prolific song writer who has always manged to touch me and make me feel that I am not alone in whatever trial or joy I am facing.
This song Like a River is about a daughter telling her recently dead Mum how she feels.
I have been there years ago with my Mum and more recently with a friend and three months ago with my dear sister.
Today we had a dear neighbour in for coffee, he lost his wife yesterday. He has too grown daughters both mothers and I dedicate this post to them.
CARLY SIMON
Like A River Lyrics
Dear mother the struggle is over now
And your house is up for sale
We divided your railway watches
Between the four of us
I fought over the pearls
With the other girls
But it was all a metaphor
For what was wrong with us
As the room is emptying out
Your face so young comes into view
And on the back porch is a well-worn step
And a pool of light you can walk into
I’ll wait no more for you like a daughter,
That part of our life together is over
But I will wait for you, forever
Like a river…
