Just Jot it January: Elastic Heart.

Today LindaGHill  set the final prompt in the 2015 edition of Just Jot It January  as, sex.

Well I love Sia  and  I thought  that  her Video of  two dancers , in  a cage  depicting , as I see it two animals fighting, is exstremely thought provoking.  The  fact one is a grown man and  the  other  a 12yr old  girl is strange…… but is is about sex.

I do not think so, to  me  there is  nothing  sexual in the portrayal. I  do find it very disturbing  though, mainly because it is so sad.

The  two dancers  are Shia LaBeouf & Maddie Ziegler    They are simply  amazing.

So here  we have it lets discuss this,  is this  video  about  sex or not ? I say not, pain, fear, anger, being trapped …. Yes ! Sex  ….. No!

I give you Sia’s Elastic Heart.

This post is part of Just Jot It January hosted by Linda G Hill.

Nothing to do with sex! The whole controversy is getting out of hand. Having a 12 year old defend her own work an her own choice in a job at that age is crazy. She’s great and her family has morals!

I don’t think sex, but I don’t know either, that this is about, what is the point of this action? Call me a cabbage patch kid, but that’s my input. 😦

To me the piece depicts the whole range of human emotions in an interaction. The neat part was, and it surprised me, was that they were both only in the cage because they chose to be. In fact they could leave the cage any time they pleased by just walking between the bars.

I do think that sex is , rightfully so, depicted as an emotion but not actualized (acted on). We as a society are very sensitive about that in children. However, especially these days, young women are entering puberty at an earlier age – many at or before 12. I would expect an honest emotional dance to include this. but that said, I saw not one small suggestion even that the act of sex was represented – just the emotion.

Keep in mind that from the very start the female was the alpha. She took or gave control as she pleased. She directed the flow and the moves – even when she gave control to the male, it was because she wanted it that way. There is a part of sex that is about power and that was manifested here clearly. I wouldn’t have any issue with that piece being marketed to young girls – as long as the parents had a chance to view and explain how it was to be understood. It is a good role model for tweens. Taking charge, feeling free to leave the cage of our rules when they see fit, giving control to others when appropriate for a healthy relationship, etc.

To answer your question Willow, I do not see any sign of the act of sex in this dance. I can see why some have objected, but I do not agree with them.

    Great post Willow.

I agree with everything you have said there Paul and so eloquently put. All human life is here yes every emotion from hate and rage to fear and love and of course sex is in there. Yet as you agree the video is not sexual.
I also found it very touching that they could of both escaped the cage but only the child could step outside, that speaks volumes to me.
Thanks Paul I value your opinion. xxx

I don’t think it is about sex, either… I guess people just see a grown man dancing with a young girl and automatically think that way.

Thanks to you, I finally watched this video. Nope. Nothing about sex here.
But was glad to see such a performance from Shia after a long time.
