Sunflower Door

There is a door in the wall
If I step through it will I fall?
What is on the other side
My curiosity I cannot hide.

In this tall walled alley steeped with history.
I feel the souls from hundreds of years, they speak to me.

Thousands of feet have passed this way.
Births,deaths,those who betray.
Intrigue and bloody murder.
A woman shamed who attacked her.

Yet in the here and now I stand.
Looking at this sunflower door and
Wonder what is on the other side?
I long to step forward and throw it wide.

It would of been a step into infinity.
The door hide a fearful drop indeed the end of me.
Yet I am here to tell the tale
Fate’s test I passed, happily I did not fail.

That alley is certainly steeped with history – and what stories wait to be told.

Doors in the old world are so much more interesting than they are here in North America, Entering and leaving are very strong symbols – beginnings and endings. Love the poem Willow. What adventures lie beyond the door? Is it a beginning or an end? How does the decoration link to what happens on the other side? Who put it there, why, when? Did a Willow from 1,000 years ago stand in front of the sunflowers and wonder as you did? Has it been written about? Pondered? Is there a mystery? What thoughts has the door engendered in others over the centuries? Or was it done by a gang member tagging his turf 20 minutes ago and then aged? Ha! Still has meaning.
Awesome pictures Willow, it looks so clean and ageless. Love the alley and my eye was drawn to the old roadway just over the wall, with another wall just beyond it. I’ve seen this configuration before. I’m from Halifax, Canada and there’s an old fort from the 1700′s- the Citadel – in the center of town. It has a similar old access road just around the outside of the interior wall. just not nearly as old as your photo subjects.
Great post Willow – by the way, where were your pictures taken?

Paul that’s a wonderful comment you caught the complete and whole meaning of the post. To me there is so much meaning to this doorway. It holds so many possibilities. Great reply Paul thanks.

Hi Paul I did not answer your question. I know we were on our way to an old Monastery at Montefieoralle Tuscany. I shall look it up for you and let you know.
America as you say is not as old as that of the old world…. But boy ! you packed it in! Xxx.
Saying that the North American Indians as all Original peoples have old old history.
      Have a good weekend. 😀 ;). xxx
