Guard Dog

Matron Bell at Ramblings and other Nonsense   wrote a lovely blog about her porcelain cat. It sits at the bottom of her stairs keeping  a door open. I mentioned that I have an iron dog  that keeps my kitchen door open.

Matron suggested I might  write a poem about  the dog, well I never miss a chance to take up a challenge  however innocently  and kindly  put!

Chinese Dog

I know exactly from whence he came

This big  strong  dog without a name.

After a visit to China. Temples, Walls and all

My sister brought  me a present  which she

Gave to me  one day when she came to call.

He seems to have a sad air about him but that’s not true.

He is comfortable  and proud  doing what he wants to do.

Guarding  my kitchen entrance  and  front door day and night

He keeps us safe and for that I make sure he is clean and treated right.

As I said I know from whence  he came

But somehow  he has not received a name.

Do you think I could ask a favour of all you good friends.

Could you suggest  a name for him so his anonymous state ends.

I know this is an odd request for  me to ask of you

But  grateful dog and I would be if you could suggest a name or too.

So I shall thank you all in advance

For this elusive name which I hope you will suggest by chance.
