~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Ederachillis’ shore
The grey wolf lies in wait-
Woe to the broken door,
Woe to the loosened gate,
And the groping wretch whom sleety fogs
On the trackless moor belate.
The lean and hungry wolf,
With his fangs so sharp and white,
His starveling body pinched
By the frost of a northern night,
And his pitiless eyes that scare the dark
With their green and threatening light.
He climeth the guarding dyke,
He leapeth the hurdle bars,
He steals the sheep from the pen,
And the fish from the boat-house spars,
And the digs the dead from out of the sod,
And gnaws them under the stars.
Thus every grave we dug
The hungry wolf uptore,
And every morn the sod
Was strewn with bones and gore:
Our mother-earth had denied us rest
On Ederchaillis’ shore
My, you are an early bird:-)It isn’t the 11th , here, for another hour! I really like When I was A Boy I Watched The Wolves. I had forgotten that one entirely!! Vangelis is always lovely. I was looking, but don’t know how to look, do you have a poem, that you have written, that fits this theme? I have a couple from my far and distant youth, buried in a stack of stuff in a trunk that I haven’t the energy to sort through. I was hoping that … but no.,,,’tis not to be. And Dances With Wolves. I put the fire dance scene as my first entry….but you have posted first, Hmmm, I think I’ll leave it as we agree we like it….. The starveling wolf didn’t have much on the moors, poor thing. Are wolves all gone in the British Isles? Good Morning soon. 🙂 Bear
I could not sleep so I was up until 1am doing my post, I think it is good that we overlap or pick similar posts just shows we have good taste!! I have been wracking my brains to see if I have written about wolves if I come up with one I shall post it! I am so tired today, I hope you are fit and well. OH! yes sadly we have no wild wolves left they have been eradicated . xx 😉
Bear, thank you for asking willow about her poetry. It reminded me of a piece of art my friend Leslie did for wolves. I’ve added it to my post. 🙂 Great idea.
