Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown. The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Eleven years ago I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " not quite but with the help of a walking stick and as long as I do not stand or sit in one position for too long, I am still standing! Update I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust, I will of been married 50yrs plus this year . Pain and boredom are my enemies now, I have to find different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and
hopefully in to light ??
I need to update this a little here. I have worked very hard over the years since my accident, I go to the gym regularly, I have a Pilates class and a core class once a week . The guys at the gym and my Pilates teacher cajoled, teased, bullied and encouraged me to abandon my walking stick! :) My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and as strongly as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well.
I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.

That drives you demented doesn’t it? You know they’re in your hair but no-one else takes the time to look properly so doesn’t see them. Worse still are the mice I can here in the loft but I have no way of getting up there to get them out. They stop me from sleeping, incessantly running around.
Yes I agree, I thought for one minute you were going to say the mice in your hair… but yet yes mice in the loft are a nightmare …even worse if they are bat because they are a protected species!! 😉
ok, I just have one word, Ewwwwwww! Not the poem, the poem was fantastic, brilliant infact, but the thought of things crawling around my hair is just, just, ewwwww 😀
It is exactly the same for me , but the spiders are as you have probably guessed metaphorical. The spiders are the nasty nasty horrors that plague us daily. I just thought and as it appears I managed to pick a good metaphor!! 😉 😉 xxx
Eeeeeeek I think arcnaphobia is one phobia that most people can equate with. Love your word for spiders. WATCH OUT!!! what’s that in the corner. 🙂 have a good day xx
ah, those pesky critters, Sweet Willow, (real or imaginary) that won’t let up. They’ll never give you peace, ’til you wash away the cause, and therein lies the rub. (pun? intended or not. I’ll let you decide 😉 ) Have a good Wednesday my friend. hugs galore… xPenx
says the time of posting the comment is 1.20.53 yet by my reckoning ’tis 03.22am, I know for I have just awoken via a nightmare. those pesky critters are at it again methinks….. ah well. Night night. xPenx .
Poor Pen I hope that I did not contribute to your bad dreams. I often awake terrified from a nightmare in the early hours. I do hope you managed to get some more sleep. I do understand that often sleep in those circumstances is as elusive as a fairie’s foot print. I hope you have a good day Pen hugs eternal xx
Nasty scuttling eight legged demons!! They do get a bad press but they ensnare their unsuspecting pray in their webs, inject them with venom to paralise them, then eat them alive. When mating the female eats her mate when he has do the business!! I ask you this type of behaviour is not going to endear them to anyone, is it? We had better push them to the back of our minds for now. Hugs eternal xxxxxx
OK, this was scary as heck for me, as I am afraid of spiders in my hair. I actually had a spider in my hair once — I think my screams were heard in the next state. :-O
I know that most people are at best uncomfortable and at worst terrified of spiders. So I thought they’d make a good attacker for the poem. I do not like spiders either and that would be my worst nightmare. 😉
I tried to follow the other links, including his gravatar which all led to nowhere. Thank you for this new link. I replied to him (semi) directly as I would never have seen his art work if you had not used it, and wanted Paul to realize that. How can art that is never seen be appreciated? Thanks again.
I am so pleased you have done that , you are so right art and words should go together and needs to be shown and spread around to all !! 😉
Went there, looked at his stuff. Thank you for the bother of looking up the links. He works hard at it and craves recognition.
Yes he does, he certainly put me in my place, I thought I had linked back to him but the link had expired so I added the new one!
Good description of a para aesthesia. Feels exactly like that, and just as intractable. There are infinite variations and can occur anywhere on the body. Quite a few neurological disorders and some infectious diseases generate illusory sensations of varying intensities and descriptions. When the spiders bite, or when the sensations hit the pain threshold they are called dis aesthesia’s. Med withdrawals, alcohol withdrawal, hormone withdrawal or out of whack body chemistry, nutrient deficiencies, even strokes can generate para and dis aesthesia. If you have spiders in your hair, or know someone who does, it is important to find out where they are coming from. —- Bear
Thank you so much for your interesting information on para aesthesia which I have not heard of before. I shall be looking it up and I shall be treating the spiders in my head with more respect.
BTW, I have recorded my tribute to my dad you can hear it by clicking on the sound cloud on the right of my page named A Quiet Man.

Willow, this one is horror! Yik!
You gave me the creeps with this one!
That was the idea the spiders are a metaphor for all our fears!! 😉
Fascinating to see all these responses to my drawing, even though my name, Paul Bartlett, has not been mentioned…
Hello I put a link back to your page, I shall happily put your name to the picture right now I did not mean to offend, I hope that you will forgive..
Very nice drawing.
The painting is beautiful the artist is by Paul Bartlett you can find out more about him here http://www.royalsocietyofbritishartists.org.uk/RBA/artistinfo.aspx?userid=1041&subject=Still%20Life&medium=All

I just went camping in the great outdoors, and that’s exactly how I feel!! 🙂
I know get in that shower right now!!!!
Already two showers later, and found a one-inch beetle in the front hall! Augh!!
EEEEK ! I demand a room with on suite and a view nowadays my camping days are gone!!
Sigh. All the males in my family seem to enjoy it.
