NaPoWriMo Day 13 Walking in the rain

Today is day 13  of NaPoWriMo   Today’s prompt is to write a poem on what we see when on a walk , I also wrote some of the random thoughts that come into your head when out on that walk.

Walking in the rain

Pull my hood up against the rain,

with your hood up the drops are not such a pain.

Down the sheltered path towards the fields

No one trims the bushes, so you need to keep your eyes peeled.

Opps! mind the dog mess, careless owners are such a pest!

I’d like to find them and rub their noses in the mess!

Through the gate and along the cinder path

Look at the squirrels dashing about , they do make me laugh.

Wave to friends walking their  lovely pets

They all pick up their dog’s mess not one of them forgets!

I  bet you think  I am ranting on about dog poo!

Sorry  that is not what I intended to do!

Turn off the path and enter the field past the slide and swings

Usually busy with children  but in this rain they are neglected things.

Lots of memories come flooding back of the boys dashing here and there

Shouting playing having fun a call of ,” time to go”, answered by a chorus of  “It’s not fair!”

They’re all men  with busy lives, yes they’ve grown and flown

Sometime soon they will walk here with me with children of their own .

Cross the field, now a park yet I remember when we first came here

It was still part of a farm . We trod carefully up the path for of cows I had a fear!

No cows now, to  the right a pleasant view and to my left hundreds of houses

Some ordered and plain, some bedecked with Wisteria  looking like brightly coloured blouses!

Reach the top and out the gate to meet the main road atop the hill

busy now full of  cars and lorries, time was it was quiet and still.

Down the road towards the town past the auction rooms and the church

The old police station  now flats across from the Tudor House on which the Magpies perch.

Boom the noise hits you now for we are in the town with people hustling

Up and down busy with their lives in and out of the shops bustling.

We’ve got buildings old and new and coffee shops galore

We have all the shops you get in towns now , a library, restaurants and more.

It’s Saturday and the market is on, such a shame it’s cold and raining.

The people on the stalls look wet and cold  but their demeanor shows they are not complaining.

Walking past the clothes shops and the nail bars, they are popular in our town we have three!

Estate agents, and coffee shops plus some household names, its buzzing here such a lot to see.

At the big church at the other end of town opposite the pub I turn back on to my route

There  is traffic coming at me and the wind and rain, the drivers are impatient listen to them toot.

I often wonder if they think harassing pedestrians  like me is fair game.

I always like to think that I drive well, I wonder if  like them, I am just the same?

Follow this road I love, lined each side with houses and with trees

They have built so much along here since we came, planners, no more please.

OH!  nearly home the high hedges of our house I can spy

Damn I am really wet now soaked by a careless driver passing by!

Oh! well at least I am nearly home and I can change my clothes

The kettle won’t take long to boil and there are new biscuits, yes I’ll have one of those.

It is always good to have a walk and let the mind and memory roam free

Fresh air, even if wet , people and sights to see then when you get home again a lovely cup f tea.
