frozen pipes
Silently all through the night icicles attacked my pipes. So this morning what do I find.No water in the kitchen taps of mine! The temperature had really dropped and through the vents, by the pipes, icy winds had popped. Done there worst to savage me , final insult no water for my coffee!

Natures Beauty
Now, normally , you know me, natures; beauty I can always see but not this time!! Not first thing in the morning, yawning, needing coffee but no water in those pipes of mine. Crystal pattern in the woods are beautiful and fine but not inside these pipes of mine.
Okay, now I have had to do this before get the extension lead and stretch it across the floor, to the open cupboard door. Use hair dryer in even bursts to help thaw the pipe come on nature do your worst.
Hours went by, well at least two and there was nothing more I could do. Just keep applying the heat, rush out side and cover the vents, those icy winds to defeat. Finally I win the day hot and cold water down the sink runs away.
I am delighted I am pleased the warmth has all that ice away squeezed. So keeping open the cupboard door and making sure the icy wind can invade around my pipes no more. I choose to do the ironing.
All was perfect once again I had nothing to complain about. Then an hour later I hear trickling OH NO ! yes, the stop cock has sprung a spout.

a gentle spray
What am I supposed to do, panic, well wouldn’t you. The water must be shut off there is nothing else to do. Now I am cut off from the mains I want more coffee but the water is playing games.
It has been too long a day, after all that crap I still had to shop, need food for Sunday.
I just do not understand I was told they were all insulated, vents covered nice and cosy nice and grand. Yet because my hubby is away the water pipes froze up today!
This is exactly what I mean when I asked you to leave me in my dream!! I wonder is this all a scheme to drive me mad , if it is , it is working well I think pipes are mean and icicles are bad!

eeeeeeeeeeeek!

frustration is like a frozen pipe… the calm, soothing water can not reach you, like coked off air. wonderful write… (~_~)

THANKS !I have discovered that writing about the bad times makes them look less intimidating and in there somewhere find some humour in what was a stressful day! xx

at least this only happens in the winter – if it continues, you might want to invest in a heat tape and wrap it around the area of the pipe that you think freezes.
when all else fails, a coffee pot filled with snow helps!

Amen to that! Thankfully my husband returned home late last night and and this morning he fixed the joint and after realizing that this happened three times!!!!! now he has closed off the air vents in wall behind the cupboard! I hope that that will finally fix the problem , it better had or my hubby will be in deep doo doo!! Thanks for your advice I shall mention the heat tape to him. It always happens when he is away!! Keep well warm and dry!

Oh dear what a terrible start for the day! It sounds like it is sorted and you are warm now.
I used to live in a Mobile Home which had this problem. We used heat tape and on extra cold days let the water drip to keep it flowing. It worked as our News Stations told us to do this.
Stay warm, Rx

enough to drive you to drink…BUT there was no water!!;);)

Willowdot, this happened to me two winters ago. Can totally relate. I think I want to go back to those handpumps by kitchen sinks that brought water from a well dug directly below the house, you know?
Feb 06, 2012 @ 18:48:29
Yes I do know, life was different then, slower, safer or is that just time getting out out the paint brush and the rose coloured paint?? I think we have been through the burst pipe scenario but please three years on the trot! I hope you are well granbee? xxx

Sounds like you had quite an adventure 😉
I wish there was snow here, it was 80 degrees (Fahrenheit) today. We had only about two weeks of winter here, even on Christmas day it was in the sixties. Worst. Winter. Ever.

It is so funny we are never happy with what we have we always want what we have not.
