Wednesday Poetry Challenge #6 November 30, 2011

Clenched

For this challenge  I have been asked to  provide a link to a page or post that references a poem on someone’s blog with commentary of my own — I beg all my my friends on here to bare with me I am sorry I have not picked you as wonderful as you all are!!

So I have picked  http://hollyannegetspoetic.wordpress.com/2011/11/23/clenched/   All of Holly’s work is quirky and intelligently amusing with a realistic twist on life.

Clenched is about a woman who is so uptight and wound up about herself. She is terrified and lonely. Every thing about her is designed to hurt others, keep others away. Attack is the best defence. She trusts no one and because of this she alienates all the people she meets.

It is a truly amazing poem and I shall leave you to judge for yourself!!

The next Christmas , epiloge to the conversation.

the empty place

The table is set and ready. My, it all looks great. All would of been so happy if not for the fickle finger of fate.

Last year was a wash out, last year was a loss. Last year Mum died so there was no point trying last year we just cried.

This year is different this year we celebrate. We have not forgotten you Mum we have set you a place you even have a plate.

We have used your favourite colours and  made it look bright and clean. We have done it right this year Mum it is as you always wanted it, a perfect dream.

Dressed the tree

I dressed the tree love, I did it right . I used the new decs. Now it is all silver and white. I did as you always did on Christmas Eve it took me nearly all night.

I did it for the kids, I did it for you and I have to say I did it for me too. You always made it perfect you always made it magic your loss to us is really just so tragic.

OH! I nearly forgot to tell you the cat is still going great guns, still using up her lives. It is a shame though she used yours up too, my beloved wife.

Your beloved cat

We love you Mum and we miss you very much but we will be happy this Christmas for our lives you still touch.

I miss you so my darling I still love you very much. I promise I will make the family happy this Christmas so please help me with your magic touch.

I,I, I, I

I sought to drive out my sorrows but they did not wish to go. They refused to leave even though I begged them so.

I thought I may be able to drown them in whisky or gin. I tried very hard but those blighters had actually learnt to swim.

I wished them goodnight and I went up to bed, Sadly as I laid down my head my sorrows were waiting there for in my bed!

I sit and and shake my fists and bury my head in my hands these sorrows are dragging me down. I am like the innards of an hour glass they are burying me in the sand.

I run out the house and through the woods, snow and slush a freezing mix that is not so good.  Stopping and turning as I flee those damn miserable sorrows are still after me.

I have had enough if I just sit down, these sorrows are just screwing me around. I am afraid awake and terrified to sleep, I fear these sorrow are after my mind for keeps.

The conversation

I like you car, is it new? I have only had it a day or is it two. I love the colour is it blue? Well they call it Azure. Do you know the road well ? Yes I have been down it a thousand times for sure, it is the road that leads right to my door.

they call in Azure blue

Did you get all your presents the shops are such a crush? I did, I did I even got my sister that amazing eye make up brush. And the festive food is that all in hand? Yes and a good thing too as I am cooking this year as planned .

Look who are all those people talking to the police? OMG That is my family they’ve  all come out even brought my baby niece. They may of heard the noise of the crash my husband does look pale why is he acting so rash.

I think I had better talk to him before he starts to cry!  No, hang on my friend you have to come with me……….. WHY?  You have crashed the car my love and you are just about to die. Surely you are joking I am standing here with you, sorry it has been good to chat but I have so much to do.

Tell me what is the last thing you remember before our chat? Well I was concentrating very hard because of all the snow then I had to swerve to miss the cat. It all went black  and then, I just don’t know.

OH! my what a commotion they are all in tears and right outside the garden gate the neighbours have not had so much to look at for years. Help I feel so cold and so very weak , is that me inside the car, I just look asleep.  Come now my friend I am with you now at your end.I shall guide you now that your earthly life is at an end.

Will they all recover will they manage without me . Don’t worry they will all cope, you can even watch and see.Now just relax and lean your head on me, I have seen you’ve always been kind and you always talk with me.  I really do not want to leave them are you really sure.  I am my dear friend now come with me just through this open door.

The Adict

You love them so and this they know, but how to respect that is something they don’t know. There will always be the need for extra money and the excuse is always good somehow their requests are coated with honey.

They will sell their clothes and their belongings and if they can they will sell yours. They have no conscience, until maybe after the act when it is too late  and they have time to think and pause.

Always they need , always they want . You will never sate their thirst. The  need for the needle, the bottle or the gamble is ever present and that will always come first.

Hide your purse, hide the cash, hide the car keys or you will loose them. Then when that happens  they will cover up and lie and swear on your life. After the lies comes remorse.

The food can go from the cupboards, presents and toys too, furniture, clothes nothing is sacred they have no choice the demon in them drives them to.

They loose care and love for family and friends.  They will take from anyone, anything  they will break your heart and it never ends.

Is there hope, well there is some, but so much hard work must be done. Recovery is hard so very hard, even when they are counting the days, weeks or years  you never can relax you are never out of the woods the thought of the demons’ return is ever here, an ever present fear..

You love them so you help, you sort them out time and time again. They will bleed your bank and bleed your heart they cause you so much pain. With any request for money the fear is always there do they need it for what they say or are they off the rails again….. OH! if only I did not care.

Stars like Dice

Stars scattered

She picked the stars up like dice and threw them once and threw twice. Till they were scattered in the skies, an amazing mix to beguile the eye.

Then colouring a deep indigo she made a stunning backdrop for the stars to show. There was such a stunning light and she decided to call it night.

She spread her arms out far and wide and defied any soul to reach the other side. All day she played at this and every now an then she would ignite a sun with just a kiss.

Galaxy after Galaxy she set out within  her being. She was unsure if she was travelling to, or fleeing. Then she had a mad idea, made a planet green and blue and planted the seed for me and you.

Eventually she got bored and looked for some new employment she made oceans and land and all of that was fine and grand. But as she was growing tired she made something less inspired. From within her tired mind she created mankind.

Back long ago when we was young.

Simple Games

Long ago when we was young, it all seemed easier to have close friends and fun.

Back long ago when we could be blithe happy and gay. When gay meant bright and happy and wicked was bad  and not good back in the day.

I know nothing was really better but time has waved a magic wand over my memory. It has white washed the pains of my early childhood and hidden some truths from me.

Lets stay with the manipulated  memories just for now. The blue skies , the endless summer days when we ran free on our summer holidays. The wonders of nature plants and animals, home when we were hungry I remember more “cansfrom then than “cants”.

Then the memories become clear first days at school, where I learnt the world and children are cruel.

Happiest days Of my life ?

Yes I learnt the meaning of unhappiness, it was my first lessen at school. I have told you all of this before so you need not listen to it any more. It did not last for ever, though at the time it felt like I was an outcast to be be accepted NEVER.

Yet time did move on and my first love came and went with all it wonders and joys heaven bent. Then the grief of a broken heart hiding in my room thinking my life was finished. This was it for always, gloom.

Another lessen in time, this too does not last for ever, though healed it is never forgot. The few friends gleaned over the years comforted me and I soon  moved on, another lad and exams time to swat!

School ended and suddenly I was thrown in at the deep end woo! New skills, new friends new tormentors to tease me too. They were never unkind though, and helped me flourish and blossom  they taught me a lot of what I know.

Happy days and I had already met my man so when we got married we invited the whole works gang.

Changes ever present,my life was always in flux as soon as I was pregnant we were on the move. It was hubby’s job he made the bigger bucks.

Back long ago when we was young the babies came and we had passed on our name. Back long ago when we was young, time has got the brush out and I see picnic on the beach blue skies and sun! Back long ago it was all fun?

Sun, Sea and Sand

Was it all fun, well maybe not but we were young. We had hardly any money but we kept away from debt we only had that which we could truly afford to get.

Back long ago when we was young, what would I change if I was there back long ago. There are things I would run from and things I would change  but who’s to know what good any changes would of done. Sitting here thinking I know I’d not change anything that would deny me my beloved sons .

I suppose, looking back from now the answer would be no! When we was young.Back long ago  There’s plenty more in these memories of mine, but it’s already said or for another time.Looking back when we was young. Back long ago.
