Night Horrors

When sleep deserts you reason is not far behind.

Panic moves in and is far from kind.

With sanity fleeing, taking sense in its path

It feels like a car crash, a bad aftermath!

 Darkness creeps and confusion reins

You can smell the fear like dirty drains.

Open a window and breathe in the night

Calm yourself now there is no need for flight.

Look up to the stars they are laughing at you

They’ve seen night horrors before in fact nothing is new.

The moon and the stars burn with ancient light

Oblivious of you with no care for your plight.

The night is an abandoned tunnel damp and dark.

Shadowy and cold echoing to the sound of a vicious dog’s bark.

The climb is steep and narrow there is no rest

You slip and stumble blindly hoping for the best.

Where is the comfort where is the light

when will there be an end to this endless night.

Sleep is a mean visitor, however we try to tempt it will only visit when it chooses. I am sorry you suffer from lack of sleep but I am so glad that you like the poem.

What a familiar feeling. The mind is the greatest terror. Beautifully done

I like the darkness of night,
no need to worry, no need of fright,
the mind plays tricks, it casts a doubt,
but never fear when the lights are out.
Take a deep breath, and exhale slow
when the lights are out, or low…

Soon it will be the morning and a new
day of hope, the night time horrors are
    no more to behold…

Sleeplessness tempts fear in the night,
but do not worry thou art alright, think only
of the morrow, and feel safety within thy
thoughts, for tomorrow is a new day and
    the night horrors are nought…

    Willow, I like your re-post 🙂

        Space… Just a quick jotting of a
couple of minutes, but I still like
it enough to add as a posting 🙂

Depression affects me and I once went for several months without sleeping. That was a bad year. I remember that I would lay down anyway, motionless for the entire night just to give my physical body the rest it needed. It was horrible and I attempted suicide that year….. Medicine eventually helped and is now helping me too…… Sleeplessness can be a symptom of something that is very serious… I hope you are doing better now……

Hi John I am sorry about your depression, it is a hard card to be dealt . The black dog who follows you everywhere. as you probably know the trick is to learn to keep him /she at bay( mine is male). I still have problems sleeping due to pain , like you I lie still and hope to rest my body.Increasingly I feel I should of got up and done something to avert those horrors when they were at their worse. I am doing better at this moment in time and I hope you are too. I seriously think writing is a wonderful outlet for all our minds and souls! Keep well keep smiling..it helps! XXX
